The Near Far Connection & Selectively Sharp - Use at least 1 roll to explore dept of field.  One print is to show extreme depth of field (sharpness throughout the image) with a narrative connection made between foreground and background.  The other image is to show selective focus or shallow depth of field to isolate a subject.  Two prints.

Fast and Slow Shutter - Try 3 different techniques to express action or movement: fast shutter to freeze action; slow shutter to blur; panning with a moving subject.  Pick the 2 best techniques  for Three prints.

Line, Shape and Texture - Make two images that emphasizes one or all of these qualities.  Two prints.

Light as the Subject - Light quality should be the main topic for these prints.  Consider how light alters or shapes a subject.  What kind of light are you seeing?  Directional?  Diffused?  Back lighting?  Two prints.

Pictures in the Dark - Make two images that expresses a feeling of  twilight or night (one indoor and one outside).  Two prints.

Photo interpretation series - This series of photographs is done in conjunction with one of your written assignments.  You must pick a photographer from a background other than yours (another country, different gender, race, etc.) and create several images representative of that photographers style.  The intent being, for you to gain a broader/different view of the world, to Asee@ from a different perspective.  Two prints.

Mini self-portrait series - Three prints - matted

Singular self portrait - Who are you now, a year ago, or one year from today? (be specific as to when) One print.

Mid-Term Critique - One print of your choosing; any image you have created this semester, mounted and ready for presentation during the mid-term group critique.  We will also look at one of your photo interpretation images at this time & discuss how the two images may or may not be related.

Final Project - The Capstone project - A group of six to ten prints (6 - 10) matted & spotted, which have a coherent theme, i.e. subject matter, style, technique, etc.  A brief written proposal is also required, as is a oralself-critique of the project and a group critique of the project during the last lab session of the semester.  The final test of your applied photographic knowledge.

Critique(s) - All prints are to be printed to the best of your ability;  spotted, mounted, and ready for

presentation & group viewing.  Consider this a test of your applied knowledge, both technically as well aesthetically - a practical exam.  Critiques are mandatory - (you must be present and participate to pass this course).

Note - Not all of these assignments may be listed on the syllabus, nor may all of them be required each semester.  You are responsible for coming to class, and being prepared in the event an assignment is dropped, added, or changed in any way.  There may also be written assignments and critiques in addition to the photography listed above.
