MSU Days Audition/Portfolio Scholarships for Media and Theatre Arts

The Department of Media and Theatre Arts expects to have scholarships available to award to prospective freshman in motion picture/video/theatre and photography. The award amounts will be available at a later date.  Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of the written statement, originality, creative energy, and relative accomplishment of the work submitted or performed. In order to receive a scholarship award, submission must be received by January 25, 2008 and the prospective freshman must declare Media and Theatre Arts as their major.

To be eligible for a scholarship award, prospective freshman are required to submit a written statement (not to exceed 500 words) about themselves,  academic history and creative work(s) to accompany submissions of film, video tapes, or photographs, by mail or in person no later than 4:00 p.m., Friday, January 25, 2008 addressed to:

Montana State University-Bozeman
Department of Media and Theatre Arts, Attn: Portfolio/Audition Committee
PO Box 173350 VCB 202 Bozeman, MT 59715-3350

Video (VHS), DVDs or films (16mm or Super-8) will be accepted. Film and video submissions must be edited to be no more than 5 minutes in length or cued to a five (5) minute sequence.

Photographs:  Present up to 20 black and white photographs between 5"X7" and 11"x14" in size.  They must be prints that the applicant has processed.   Prints may be bound in a notebook or album with clear plastic sheets, or dry mounted or window matted, using neutral color board.  In your written statement, please note your experience with other photographic processes.

Theatre Auditions: Prepare an audition of two contrasting  monologues.  The monologues should not exceed five (5) minutes total. As MSU may be presenting musicals, a song of no more than one minute may also be presented. Students who wish to sing should bring their own accompaniment on tape or sing a cappella. Students who want to be considered for scholarships based on theatre tech work should bring samples of their design work.  Interviews and auditions will be held Friday, January 27 between 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. in the Strand Union Theatre. Videotapes of monologues, keeping to the same 5-minute length, may be submitted by students unable to come to Bozeman. Videotapes must be received by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2008.  To make appointments for auditions contact Jeanette Goodwin at 406-994-6224

After scholarships have been announced on February 8, 2008, entrants may pick up their work at the Media and Theatre Arts Department, VCB room 202 or provide a self addressed stamped envelope/packing for the return of their submissions.
