These photographs were made on the northwest Florida coast near Pensacola. They are the result of my efforts to come to terms with this water, this vital part of my environment in the first twenty years of my life. Since 2001, I have been trying to explain to myself the importance of it now, after having lived in the mountains for so long. I hope to represent my experience of being there—and having been there. --John Hooton
